Rum Old-fashioned
The Old-fashioned cocktail is a true classic that has been around since the beginning of the 1800’s. In the original form, the Old-fashioned would be made with Whisky or bourbon. However, a Rum Old-fashioned is a heavenly treat. Besides having an absolutely delicious taste, it is a really simple recipe. One of the beauties of this drink is that it is so rum-forward, that using a different rum (blend) will make it a completely different experience. Using Davidsen’s X.O. Black Label Reserve, Blend 15 will give a deep, and dark Old-fashioned, whereas using Davidsen’s X.O. Blue Label Reserve, Blend 22 will give an Old-fashioned with delicious notes of orange and Banana. Our recipe for the perfect Rum Old-fashioned is as follows:
Ingredients
- 6 cl. Davidsen’s X.O. Red Label Reserve, Blend 28
- 4 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
- 2 dashes of Angostura Orange Bitters
- 2 barspoons of simple syrup
Garnish:
- Orange peel
How to make
- Stir all ingredients (including orange peel) over ice
- Strain to rocks glass with fresh ice (not including the orange peel)
- Zest fresh orange peel over the glass and insert into the drink
The Rum Old-fashioned is a lovely sipping cocktail. You will notice that it is almost only spirit, so you will want to enjoy this beauty over some time. The great thing about a cocktail like this is the evolution. When it sits in the glass with ice, it will slowly melt the ice which will dilute the cocktail slightly. The more diluted it becomes, the rounder and softer it gets. The sip you take in the beginning is not at all the same as the last sip, although they are both heavenly. This version of the old classic is one of our absolute favourite drinks of all time.
