Gin Old-fashioned
As the name implies this cocktail is one of the first ever to be recorded. In fact, it has been around since the beginning of the 1800’s. In its original form it is made with whisky/bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters. This template makes for many different and delicious cocktails and here we have substituted the whisky with The ·O·D·D· Gin Original Dry. If you love gin, you are going to love this cocktail. It is everything that is good in gin, with a bit of sugar to take off the edge of the ethanol and some bitters to elevate the cocktail to heavenly heights. In a classic Old-fashioned the typical bitters used are aromatic and orange bitters such as Angostura Aromatic Bitters and Angostura Orange Bitters. These are perfectly suitable for this drink as well, but we prefer using Peychaud’s Bitters. This gives the following recipe for our perfect Gin Old-fashioned:
Ingredients
- 6 cl. of The ·O·D·D· Gin Original Dry
- 4 dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters
- 2 barspoons of simple syrup
Garnish:
- Lemon zest
How to make
- Stir all ingredients over plenty of ice
- Strain to rocks glass with fresh ice
- Zest lemon peel over glass and insert into the drink
The use of Peychaud’s Bitters in this Gin Old-Fashioned interplays exceptionally well with the notes of The ·O·D·D· Gin Original Dry. Peychaud’s Bitters appear quite herbaceous with bitter notes and taste notes of cherry, orange zest and mint. Along with the refreshing aroma from the fresh lemon zest, it elevates the drink and gives it just that extra refreshing quality that we absolutely love! Like a classis Old-fashioned, this is a sipping cocktail that will evolve as it sits in the glass as the ice slowly melts. Simply perfect and definitely one of our all-time favourite cocktails.
